Starting from 2010, Hsu-Tung Han has 13 years’ experience of wood sculpturing by using a special material called “Glued-laminated timber, GLT or Glulam.” In 2022, the artist began a series of touring exhibitions with “digitalWrite (Hsu-Tung Han Sculpture);” being its theme. Began from Department of Cultural Affairs, Taoyuan in April, Tainan Art Museum Building 1 from May to the beginning of June, J. P. Art Center, Kaohsiung from the middle of June to the middle of July, and finally back to East Gallery, Taipei in September, making this exhibition a perfect and colorful ending!

 

The touring exhibitions in 2022 can be viewed as a huge breakthrough in Han’s transition of sculpturing for the past 10 years. He seamlessly switching the “new and change” in art between modern and contemporary time. But what the most admirable is that Hsu-Tung Han learned programming language online all by himself, then he combined creation of glulam sculpturing with the knowledge he learned, pushing the boundaries that many artists hardly succeed in, truly embodied his inherent talent ...

 

Graduated from Department of Anthropology, NTU; however, without the practice and restriction of academicism, this self-taught artist has created for over 35 years and accumulated more than 400 artworks, each and every one of them is unique. His works not only artistic but also natural, they represent both distinctive and philosophical style in the field of woodcarving. Leaving a record for art history in a work style of ascetic monk, Han’s dedication and zeal are plainly visible in his distinctive sculptures.

 

For solo exhibition in Art Taipei this year, it’ll be a classic look back on his artworks, especially “The Flowing Military Uniform No.1.” This unique work will return to its first exhibition place once again after 1994 Art Galleries Fair Taipei. Hsu-Tung Han’s artworks retain his singular style just like his motto “Seek innovation and changing, stay true to yourself.”
